Microsoft Teams adding Join Meeting by Numeric Code

image

A popular feature on competing meeting platforms, Microsoft is adding the ability to join a meeting via a unique meeting Numeric “code”. This is handy when someone wants to join a meeting but you can’t easily share the join link with them, say for example you want to SMS someone a meeting invite but they want to join on their computer and don’t understand how they can get the details from the SMS over to their computer. Or perhaps tell people the meeting to join over the phone. It can also be useful when running into an unscheduled meeting room and wanting to quickly join from the Microsoft Teams room.

Once you have the code you can simply type it into the Teams client (web, desktop or mobile) or a Room System (when the feature rolls out) to join,

From a user experience point of view, we now have a new “Meeting code”, a “conference ID” (to join on regular PSTN phone, further if you have Cloud Video Interop enabled (to allow standards-based rooms to join a teams meeting) there is a third numeric meeting join ID in the invite. I can see users getting easily confused as to which number to use for which scenario. I hope these can be a single number in the future with a simpler invite layout/instructions.

The Meeting Code feature will begin rolling out in early May and expected to complete the rollout by late May 2021.

  • Hi Tom,
I know it’s an old post and maybe I am missing something here, but where is the conference code option from Teams meeting gone?

    Thanks,
    Golan
