Interesting news today. Microsoft has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Metaswitch Networks, a leading provider of virtualized network software and voice, data and communications solutions for operators.

Metaswitch Networks is a private UK-based company that designs, develops, manufactures, and markets telecommunications software to communication service providers, equipment manufacturers and large enterprises.

This is mainly focused on the drive to 5G and the potential of this in the growth of Azure. Interestingly Metaswitch also have a Microsoft Teams certified SBC

Metaswitch Perimeta is a cloud-native carrier-class virtualized session border controller that can be deployed as a virtual machine or in containers. It’s used by AT&T, Deutsche Telkom and Telstra.

This is on the heels of Microsoft acquiring Affirmed Networks, also to deliver new opportunities in 5G.
