This week we got Skype for Business Server 2019 Hotfix (HF1). Thanks to my college Tobie Fysh for flagging this one being released.
A Hotfix is generally defined as a release to target a specific customer reported a problem that needs a quicker release and goes through limited testing. It is distinct to cumulative update that can add features as well as fixes and go through more extensive testing.
Slightly confusingly, at time of writing, the Microsoft download link refers to it as a “Cumulative Update”. It is not.

This hotfix includes:
- Enables Location-Based Routing to support Skype for Business mobile clients
- Fixing an issue with the 180 day evaluation release of SfB Server 2019 not starting.
If you don’t need either of these fixes, there is no urgency to deploy this hotfix.
180-day evaluation release of SfB Server 2019 not starting details
If you install the Microsoft evaluation software for Skype for Business Server 2019 from Microsoft Evaluation Center, the RTCSrv service can’t start. In addition, Event ID 12290 is logged in the event viewer, and you receive the following error message: The evaluation period for Skype for Business Server 2019 has expired. This hotfix fixes that issue.
