Skype Room System rebranded to Microsoft Teams Rooms

Long expected, and not a huge surprise, Skype Room Systems have been rebranded as Microsoft Teams Rooms

The rebrand aligns to some new features becoming available:

  • Support for dual screens
  • Companion experiences with mobile, to join your devices in content-only mode.

Coming soon is Proximity detection, the ability for a PC teams client to “know” you are in a room equipped with Microsoft Teams Room and auto mute/join in content only mode/migrate the call to the room.

Early screenshot of proximity detection:

The official blog makes mention of “Microsoft [itself] has deployed Microsoft Teams Rooms in more than 2,400 [Microsoft] Meeting Rooms around the globe”. Good to hear they are eating their own dog food.

The software hasn’t changed, just like before Microsoft Teams Rooms will still work with Skype for Business calls and meetings.

Teams Room Vendors include Logitech, Crestron, Polycom, Lenovo, hp and Yealink (still awaiting final certification).
