Sonus, Microsoft Certified SBC provider, merges with Genband and renamed Ribbon Communications

Interesting news today, Sonus, best known in our world as one of the leading providers of certified gateways/session border controllers for Skype for Business, has announced completion a merger with Genband. Genband is more in the carrier space so don’t conflict too much with Sonus, especially not in the enterprise space. From what I’ve heard its Business as usual in the Sonus space. The company...

Strip Lync Calling Extension (;ext=ZZZZ) on Outbound calls via Sonus Gateway

Quick post for reference really Lync users are usually setup with their number in the format “tel:+XXXXXXXYYYY;ext=ZZZZ” Often, YYYY and ZZZ match and are set mainly for PIN sign in on Lync phones. On a Lync setup I noticed calls were going out with the calling party set as “+XXXXXXXYYYYZZZZ”, obviously incorrect. No matter how I messed with the rules ZZZZ kept getting appended. I could “hack it”...

Workaround for older NET/Sonus firmware Java Real Time Monitor being blocked

Oracle have taken a positive step of blocking Unsigned Java RIAs (Rich Internet Applications) in the latest version of Java, this is a good idea from a security point of view (more details here). Sonus have a great Real Time Monitor view on the gateway web interface that relies on Java. It shows the real time status of trunks and calls. Unfortunately in earlier version of Firmware (2.2.1 and...

Deploying a Sonus #Lync 2013 Survivable Branch Appliance (SBA) Walkthrough

I previously wrote a walkthrough on deploying a Lync 2010 SBA. I thought I’d write an updated post for a Lync 2013 SBA. Not a lot has changed in the process or in how the SBA worked. Since writing the last walkthrough net has been acquired by Sonus. I am using the same gateway, a Sonus SBC 1000 (previously called net UX 1000) There are essentially 3 major steps to deploying an SBA Lync Topology...

How to Update Sonus/NET UX Gateway Firmware

Quick post as I’ve been asked about this a few times. Here are the steps to upgrade the Sonus UX1000 / UX2000 (the web interface is the same on both). The gateways have a A/B Partition system. This is nice as you can upgrade the inactive partition ready to reboot to it out of hours and if you have any issues you can roll back to the partition with the old firmware prior to the upgrade. Here you...
