Exciting news, PSTN Calling for Ireland and Netherlands has been added to skypepreview.com. PSTN calling is the service where Microsoft provide your user phone numbers directly from the cloud, acting as your “PSTN carrier”. Currently, PSTN Calling is generally available for France, Puerto Rico, Spain, UK and US.
This functionality for Ireland and Netherlands is currently still under development, but you can sign up at skypepreview.com and Microsoft will notify you once they are ready to onboard you.
Qualification for being in the preview:
- You need an Office 365 billing address in one of the countries where PSTN Calling is available (tech preview or GA) – If you don’t have this you cannot go on to purchase a license.
Then to license end users:
- The O365 service location profile country of the user must match the country of the phone number being provided.
- You need to be able to provide a physical address for the user+phone number that is allowed by the national regulator – This varies between countries. In UK any UK address is allowed, but in France, addresses must be within a geographical zone within the country defined by the regulator.
Requirements for preview
- 50 users using PSTN Calling with their Office 365 number as their main telephone number
- Users are expected to complete frequent program surveys to provide feedback on experiences
- Join occasional live feedback sessions and actively provide feedback
I’m sure Korneel is particularly excited

Very exciting news Tom, however I am still in this catch 22 where my EA is signed in Switzerland and so as much as I’d like to deploy the services to my users in Holland I still cannot (same scenario for my UK users or USA users). Very frustrating….
Yes, this is a bit of a commercial/contractual challenge. Honestly, I would like to understand it a little better. Might ping you if that’s ok (or ping me).
Hi Tom – I have a customer that has offices in both Netherlands and Ireland, they read on skypepreview.com that your tenant needs to be in the country where you want to preview PSTN calling is that correct ?
Typically no, there should not need to be a tie between your tenant location and PSTN Calling location. For example we have a US tenant and I have UK PSTN Calling
Further clarified/confirmed with Microsoft. I have updated the blog text. Thanks
Hey Tom,
I have office in the Netherlands but we have customers in the UK. Wondering about taking a service number in the UK. So making MS my carrier in the UK while my tenant and users live in Cloud or On prem in Netherlands.
I have question about the possibilities of PSTN In the cloud. With the Auto Attendant or Call queue, can i set the target to a on-premises SIP URI (RSG or an trustedapplicationendpoint) for the difficult callrouting back to agent that lives in the onprem/cloud.
