Off topic post, but thought I’d post so others can find the answer.
I recently got a Lenovo Yoga (really pleased so far0, but the function keys default to special shortcuts such as volume and brightness, if you press the Fn key you get the regular F1-F12 keys. As a person who uses a lot of different machines I’m used to standard function keys being the default (F2 for rename for example), so it was a little annoying.
I looked for a keyboard setting to change in windows, but after a bit of searching I found the change needs to be made in the BIOS, “HotKey Mode”.
This simple change makes the Fn button activate the special “media shortcut” style keys and the default the standard F1-F12 keys.
This is a great tip, but do you know if there is a way to toggle it on and off on the fly? Thanks.
No, I don’t think so.
thanks
Tom
On T440s one can toggle them on and off by pressing Fn + Fnlk (ESC). It also remembers the status on reboot.
THANKS!!!! It have dirven me crazy to have hot keys as standard on the function keys!!!
:-) Glad it was useful
Great post. I’ve been trying to figure out how to revert back to the regular F1-F12 keyboard setting this one is the best I’ve come across.
Quick question — do you know how I can access BIOS? I have a ideapad Z510. I tried restarting and tried entering F1 (the mute key), Fn+ F1, F12 (bright key), and Fn+F12 and nothing seems to get me to the BIOS screen.
Thanks!!
Not sure, Lenovo usually have PDFS of the manual?
I have a new Yoga 900. I am having a hard time finding the BIOS on this computer. I need to disable the FN keys so that my other software will work properly.
