Microsoft Teams Shared Channels coming

Microsoft Teams Connect Shared Channels

A bit of a mouthful of a name (maybe a nod to the Slack Connect name?), Microsoft Teams Connect appears to be the brand name and “Shared Channels” the feature. Shared Channels will allow collaboration with external parties in a single channel with a team. The benefit here is that external users can be added to a single channel rather than the whole team and, most importantly each shared channel will appear within a user’s primary Teams tenant alongside existing teams and channels, so no need to “tenant switch to interact with shared channels in different tenants.

Shared channels are currently in private preview and will be made generally available later this calendar year.

This could really reduce the friction of cross-organisation collaboration in Microsoft Teams, as well as reducing the need for specific teams where guests are members and other internal teams without the guests for projects.
