Add Skype Consumer or Skype for Business Server Audio Test Service Bot to a Cloud PBX User

I’ve now been on Skype for Business Cloud PBX with hybrid on-premise PSTN connectivity for a couple of months and it’s working well.

One thing that is missing for Cloud PBX users is the Audio Test Service, where you can record a message and have it played back to you, to confirm your audio device and connectivity are good.

On Skype for Business Server you have the button here:

But in cloud PBX it’s missing

There are two workarounds:

Skype for Business Server Test Bot

Firstly if you are hybrid with Lync / Skype for Business server, you can lookup the Server test bot and add it to your Skype for Business Cloud PBX user buddy list

On Skype for Business Server, each bot is an applicaiton with a SIP URI. you can’t search it from the address list, but you can lookup the SIP URI with PowerShell

Get-CsApplicationEndpoint | Where-Object {$_.DisplayName -like “*audio test*”}

If you have more than one pool, more than one test bot will show up

Find the one for the pool you want and copy the SIPAddress

You can then add this SIP URI to your buddy list.

 

It won’t make the button appear on the dial pad, but the bot will  be in your buddy list to call and test your audio.

Bonus Tip, if you want to test audio from one user to all the various pools, you could add more than one bot to your buddy list, but you would have to distinguish which is which as they all have the same display name

Skype Consumer Test Bot

The more interesting one is, if you have Skype Consumer federation enabled, you can just search for the Skype Consumer test bot and add it to your buddy list, no need for any PowerShell/Server access or Hybrid Server setup.

The Skype Consumer bot is called echo123
